Scores of young ladies rose bright and early Saturday morning to prepare themselves for UFV fashion show committee’s auditions for the Absolute Style 2012 Fashion Show.
They headed down the D-building hallway of UFV’s Abbotsford Campus to strut their best walks, looks and poses to the best of their abilities.
“We had 80 girls come today,” said Michelle Shugg, organizer of the Absolute Style 2012 show. “That’s probably about average, but based on how it will be a smaller show this year, because of the number of students, it’ a really good turnout. Seems to be getting more quality every year. So I’m happy about that.”
When asked if small fashion shows like this are a good opportunity to advance into a more professional setting of modeling, Shugg was positive.
“Yes. I do think that. A lot of girls come out here just because they think it’s interesting,” said Shugg. “And they either get interested in our fashion department, and end up going into the program for design, and then a lot of other girls start pursuing modeling,” she said.
According to Shugg, there are a number of models who got there start with the UFV shows.
“I probably have six or seven of my models from previous years who are now walking for Vancouver Fashion Week,” she said. “So, they keep in touch with me, and I see them on the runways for professional shows, and it’s really interesting, because if they didn’t get their start at UFV, they would have never even got into that. I think it’s been a very positive experience for the young girls.”
Those who auditioned will find out by February 20 if they will be modeling in the show or not. The Absolute Style 2012 Show will be held on Wednesday, April 25. It will be held in the Student Activity Centre. There will be one show from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. and another from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. later in the evening. Tickets can already be purchased by calling (604) 557-4073.
