By Aaron Levy (CIVL DJ) – Email

Print Edition: March 28, 2012

Aaron Levy hopes you’ll vote yes for CIVL Radio on myUFV until tonight (Wednesday) at midnight! In honour of this occasion, here are some vote-related songs.

Survivor – “Eye of the Tiger”

Newt Gingrich recently used this song in his Republican presidential nomination race campaign, and was promptly sued by Survivor, in addition to having lead singer Jimi Jamison perform on The Colbert Report parodying the politician. It worked for Rocky, too bad Newt’s not quite as built – he’s definitely been exercising…

K’Naan – “Waving Flag”

Shameless plug, in 2006, before anyone knew who K’Naan was, I interviewed him on my campus radio show. Yeah, I’m that cool! And campus radio is that useful! Think about it. Anyway, K’Naan also didn’t want GOP candidates using his music. Who can blame him? I know I wouldn’t. Anymore.

Cocoa Tea – “Barack Obama”

Leading up to the 2008 American election, this song was huge … at least in the circles I ran in. Chorus = “Barack Obama” repeated again and again, ooooh! Verse: “This is not about class/ Nor colour, race, nor creed/ Make no mistake, it’s the changes/ Weh all the people dem need”

Revenge of the Nerds – “Vote No on 15”

Don’t mistake this for me asking you to vote no. I want you to vote, but it’s up to you how. “I’m no jock, no football hero/ but that don’t mean I’m an absolute zero,” sing The Nerds, but they did vote no on 15, and nerds conquered the universe.
