A man and a woman each sit at separate tables, post-it note pads at the ready. The premise of the play is to show their relationship, from pre-marriage to the end, solely through little notes. Such a script presents a certain challenge for a director, I’m sure — how do you translate that to the stage? I was a bit disappointed with the choices in blocking and set. The actors did well, but delivered most of their lines from their seats at the tables, with few opportunities for movement. There were some cheeky, funny lines and some of the looks exchanged between the two prompted laughter, but more liberties taken with the physical set-up of the stage and action to really show the story happening behind the content of the post-it notes might have been more engaging and resulted in a stronger emotional punch, especially since many of the life moments or milestones in the script were relatively generic. It was short, cute, and funny with a sombre end, but more could have been done with it.

Memorable lines:

“We need Pampers. And baby wipes … and we need to get married.”

“To the new VP of marketing, we need milk. Please advise.”
