Your Student Union Society is hosting the Return To Campus Kickback at the Abbotsford campus from 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 23. A beer garden will be set up on the green with Trading Post Brewery serving free beer to all students who come by (limit two per person, while supplies last). Come hungry because there will be food trucks from more local vendors like Little oOtie’s Mini Donuts, Stormy’s, Streats, and Tin Lizzy.
In collaboration with many other departments on campus, including Campus Recreation, Athletics, and Student Life, the Kickback will feature attractions like: a live DJ, beer pong, mini golf, the wipe-out game, a caricature artist, selfie mirror booth, and so much more. There will even be a dunk tank where students can try to dunk someone from UFV admin, a coach from UFV Athletics, or your new SUS President, Nikiel Lal.
“As we transition back to life on campus, the university is trying to build student engagement and have students excited about returning,” said Lal in an interview with The Cascade.
The outdoor event is the perfect middle ground to allow students to socialize and meet new people, but at the same time be socially distanced and following all the new COVID-19 protocols UFV has put in place. Lal said he planned the event to be similar to a festival, in that it brings people together and brings a sense of community.
“I want students to know they can count on [SUS],” said Lal, “and they can come to us for advocacy, good campus life, and overall good services.”
So, be sure to stop by the campus kick-off, grab a free beer, jam out to the live DJ, and say hi to all those faces you haven’t seen in 18 months, or maybe ever.
