Are we done yet?

Dear Robin,

I’ve been living in my parents’ extra bedroom for too long now, and I just can’t do it anymore; my mom re-cleans the kitchen after I’ve just done it, she constantly has the vacuum going, and she won’t stop loudly gabbing with her girlfriends on the phone. It’s a weird chaos in the house at all times. Robin, please, I know you know when this pandemic is going to come to an end. Please tell me when that will be so I can get my job back and move away from my parents?

Sincerely,

Desperate Downstairs

Hi,

Thank you for acknowledging my all-knowing knowledge — I appreciate that. I wish I could tell you when we’ll actually all be vaccinated and stop being deathly lonely, but I have a strict contract with the Trudeau government to not do so. All I’m allowed to say is that if you haven’t tried that new hobby you planned on doing at the beginning of isolation, you should certainly get started now. At this rate you may only have a few years of quarantine left.

Robin

Back at it

Dear Robin,

We haven’t heard from you since last June. I was really worried that you got COVID-19 and all went downhill from there. Where were you?

Sincerely,

Worried Sick

Hello,

I normally wouldn’t publicly respond to a question like this because Dear Robin is not about my excellent life, but rather, your misadventures. But I do think it’s important to discuss and acknowledge mental illness openly. Sometimes we need time off, and I did just that. Things can get overwhelming at times, and with the pandemic and job loss and sleep loss and actually losing people, taking a break can be necessary at times. If you find yourself in need of a break, I encourage you to do so in a way that works best for you. If you’re unable to take a break in a way you would like, I suggest reading my column to get some comic relief because there’s no reason why you shouldn’t find a chance to laugh every now and again.

Robin
