Fall 2024’s hottest home and fashion trends

Explore the hottest fashion and home decor trends, making your fall season elegant and cozy

Both fashion and home decor industries have witnessed a variety of trends this year. We saw it all, from the resurgence of ballet flats and all things coquette to Coach’s rebranding and subsequent status as an It Girl staple. With 90s style making a comeback and a surge of bolder, warmer colours, textures like plaid and animal prints, and asymmetrical shapes and fluidity in both clothes and home decor, we’re looking at cozy nostalgia for fall 2024.

Asymmetrical shapes and fluidity in furniture:

As the temperature drops, this trend reflects our desire to feel at ease in our living areas. This season, curved furniture has seen a rise in demand because of its cozy, soft appeal. Curved chairs, arching accents, ripple texture coffee tables, and wavy sofas give the illusion of a larger space while maintaining a comfortable, laid-back vibe. Plus, having a statement piece like this adds a modern touch to a simple space.

A touch of luxury with marble and chrome:

This fall, a marble coffee table with chrome detailing is a must-have for those wishing to add a touch of luxury to their homes. Combining sleek modernism with traditional elegance, pairing marble and chrome radiates elegance and sophistication throughout your home.

Earthy colour schemes:

Warm and earthy tones are going viral again. According to Nancy Parrish, owner and lead designer of Nancy Parrish Interiors, “Green is the new black this fall.” Like the changing leaves in autumn, tones like butter yellow, burgundy, and olive green give your space depth and add a bit of warmth. Paint, fabrics, and accent pieces of these colours are simple yet efficient ways to add drama and character to your home without making any big changes.

Nature-inspired decor:

Using natural components in home decor is a classic style that looks especially good in the fall.  Susie Novak, principal designer and founder of Susie Novak Interiors, says, “The warm, fuzzy feeling you get from petting a puppy or walking in the woods? That’s dopamine, baby. Our brains also get a dopamine boost when we’re in cozy, personalized spaces—which is why we’re so passionate about what we do.”

Animal prints reimagined:

This season’s runways are dominated by animal print, especially leopard. Designers like Versace, Alexander McQueen, Dior, and Zimmermann are all over animal prints this fall. If you are less likely to wear leopard print, zebra and snake prints are equally fashionable and will incorporate some animal print into your aesthetic. These designs are playful and adaptable, adding a wild twist to any ensemble.

Earthy, rich colour palettes

In keeping with the coziness of fall, burgundy and olive green are having a revival in fashion. Especially as someone who has filled half her closet with everything burgundy, these hues are easily incorporated into apparel, accessories, and as we saw above, home decor. From personal experience, these colours give your look more depth and character.

Plaid designs to faux fur

Unsurprisingly, plaid is making a big comeback (was never gone?), offering a timeless option — we can all have our moment as Cher from Clueless (1995) this year. Whether used for apparel or home decor, plaid adds a cozy element that blends well with fall hues. When the temperature lowers, plaid is something that screams fall like no other.

Further to this, nothing gives luxury like faux fur and it is having its moment this year — whether it be faux fur coats or boots. Popularized by the mob wife aesthetic on TikTok, a statement item like faux fur would be a great addition to your outfit this season.

Fall 2024 is all about striking the right balance between comfort and style in our wardrobes and our homes. This season’s trends are a throwback to past trends, but with a new take. As we move into the winter months, it’s all about cozy and effortless looks, whether that means adding a statement piece of furniture, a touch of warm earthy colours, or changing up your closet with some fun patterns and textures.
