Everyone knows girls want ponies for their birthdays. So when a father leads his daughter to a canvas-covered birthday gift, allegedly a pony, she is understandably excited. But there’s a twist… maybe this gift isn’t what she wants after all. “You’re the cruellest daddy in the whole world,” the 13-year-old accuses. Eventually Dad has to get back into her good books, but how? The whimsical imagination sequence (cue Disney-esque soundtrack) was cute and engaging. Quick, emotive lines drew laughter from the audience and kept us guessing at what would happen next. Overall, Best Daddy is funny, cheeky, and frequently delivers the unexpected.

Memorable lines:

“He’s dead … It’s a hell of a thing to tell your daughter on her birthday.”

“He wasn’t your pony when I shot him. He was a pony.”
