Time to rot!

Welcome to The Cascade, your source of news, culture, and student life at the University of the Fraser Valley.

It’s finally here, the moment we’ve all been waiting for: the end of semester! Throw those textbooks away, burn your class notes, and forget every single piece of information you learned! Just kidding, of course. But I’m guessing we’re all just as ready for winter semester to go the way of the colder weather (read: disappear over the hills).

This issue of The Cascade has loads of fun articles to help you transition into summer. For one, our collaborative feature on p. 11-13 — written by our wonderful editorial staff — hands you actionable tips and tricks on recovering from the last few months. Rotting in bed, anyone? I know I’m already on my way there.

If you’re one of the lucky few graduating this semester, you’ll want to flip to p. 9 for an overview of overrated versus underrated jobs. Or, if you want to put that off for a little while, but want to dream of what our campus will be, head on over to p. 10 for a hopeful proposition of what the cafeteria will turn out as.

More in campus news: on p. 4, one of our reporters sat down with Dr. Joanne MacLean, who not only manned UFV’s helm as president these past eight (ish) years, but was just awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

Then, on p. 17, we have an overview of spring fashion trends to help you look cool as the warm weather comes in. Or maybe you’re feeling like you’d like to stretch your homemaker muscles; if that’s the case, the basic bitch bread recipe, also on p. 17, is perfect for you.

Some absolutely wild news: The Cascade attended this year’s 2025 JUNO Awards at Rogers Arena in Vancouver! Groove your way to p. 22 for an overview of who dazzled on the orange carpet and who stole the night.

As always, thank you for picking up this issue of The Cascade. We hope you enjoy!
