UFV Speaks: Returning to in-person classes

In UFV Speaks, our intrepid reporters pick a topic currently relevant to UFV students or staff and ask them for their heated opinions to get a real sense of how the UFV population feels about the facts.

I asked students over the phone who are currently attending UFV for their thoughts and opinions on returning to in-person classes, and if they’re excited to not have virtual classes anymore.

“Honestly, I think that people are going to be more reserved, and there will probably be a lot of skipped classes. I’m definitely excited to go back, but I know of many others who don’t feel the same way. However, I’m hoping once some time has passed, things will feel natural again.”

“It’s a tough thing to answer personally. I have enjoyed being in quarantine. It gave me time to work on more artwork and get over in-class anxiety that usually distracts me quite frequently. I am hoping that if we go back to in-person classes we all just act as safe as we can. I’m not too excited about it as I’m still quite anxious about COVID-19. I just hope it isn’t immediate — maybe easing into it?”

“I’m not too sure. I think it’s definitely going to be different. Maybe less people in a classroom, or hybrid structures of sorts? I can’t see them returning fully to in-person classes just because of the investment they’ve made into the online platform. I am excited but also a little bit nervous because I’ve gotten pretty used to online classes and regulating my own school schedule. I’m really just hoping that professors continue to be understanding as we transition back into normalcy.”

“I’m expecting school to be some sort of mix of online and in-person classes. I don’t feel we are at the point where we can go completely back to normal quite yet. I am looking forward to regaining a face-to-face connection with professors as well as other students. As a science student, I find in-class instruction the most beneficial, so I am definitely looking forward to regaining a sense of normalcy this fall.”
