The UFV golf team finished their 2020 season, while UFV soccer continues on

The Cascades set out for more competition this past week, with both the golf and soccer teams competing at a high level. UFV golf looked to close their 2020 season with victories, while UFV soccer continued their adapted season.

UFV golf started off their final set of events in the B.C. Rivalry Series with Wednesday’s showdown at Chilliwack Golf Club. The women’s team placed second, but had some strong performances, most notably the top-five finish by Cascades golfer Lucy Park (T-4). Alex Brunner (9), Emery Bardock (T-10), and Avery Biggar (15) also competed for UFV, leading into their final event the following day.

The women’s Thursday event at Morgan Creek Golf Course saw Brunner place the highest for the team (T-4) along with Park (T-8), Bardock (12), and Biggar (14). The team placed third for the day. The women’s golf team completed the B.C. Rivalry Series placing third overall in the team standings.

The men’s team started off Wednesday with a solid performance from Jackson Jacob (T-1) followed by Jacob Lucki (T-3), Kyle Claggett (T-7), Ben Whiton (T-7), Cody Bailey (11), Jacob Armstrong (T-13), and Eli Greene (T-18), who rounded out the scores, with the team placing second on the day. Thursday’s event saw Whiton lead the team (T-2) along with Armstrong (T-4), Jacob (T-4), Claggett (T-9), Bailey (16), Lucki (T-18), and Greene (20). The men finished tied for second on that day, but officially won the B.C. Rivalry Series as the leading team throughout eight total events.

UFV soccer is also working to improve their season records, and the women’s and men’s teams have played against the TWU Spartans and Chilliwack FC, respectively.

The Cascades women took on the Spartans on Saturday, looking to snap their two-game losing streak; however, they were unable to emerge victorious, losing 0-2. They will have to wait for their first win of the season, but they are scheduled to get another chance when they take on the UBC Thunderbirds on Nov. 7.

The men’s team went head-to-head with Chilliwack FC last Tuesday. They blasted the team 6-1 en route to their third win of the season, making their season record 3-1 heading into their match against TWU on Nov. 10. The teams are set to continue their campaigns next week.
