Our annual Songs Strings and Steps Christmas concert takes place at Central Heights Church in Abbotsford on December 6th and 7th. Several of you have asked why the event is so early this year. This is due to venue availability.
This popular show produced and directed by Calvin Dyck will feature the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra (all 3 divisions), Festive Brass and Tenor Ken Lavigne. Ken will perform several carols from his album “Comfort and Joy” with powerful and moving arrangements by Roy Tan including: In the Bleak Midwinter, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Upon a Midnight Clear and Away in a Manger.
Another highlight will be the acclaimed Victoria-based “Festive Brass” ensemble who will entertain you with their interpretation of “Frosty” and also perform exquisite arrangements including Lo, How a Rose and the hauntingly beautiful Huron Carol.
The Abbotsford Youth Orchestra Senior division violinists will delight you with the Barrage arrangement of Jingle Bells (with choreography by Sylvia Friesen). In addition, the orchestra will present “Winter” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and the Corelli Christmas Concerto. As has become tradition, the concert will end with Mel Bowker’s epic arrangement of O Holy Night featuring Calvin Dyck as violin soloist.
We hope to see you at this festive occasion filled with delightful orchestral music and several surprises for the audience. Come with your family and friends to “Celebrate Christmas!”
