After a three year hiatus, the UFV Physics Student Association (PSA), along with many others, are bringing back the Big Bang, the previously annual end of year party. Hosted in the UFV Envision Financial Athletic Centre atrium April 10 from 4-10 p.m., the event will feature food, games, prizes, and local music and performances.
The current lineup of entertainment for the evening is Abbotsford’s own local band Fun for Cover, the Brandi Watts band, and UFV’s Bhangra club.
There will also be a science trivia challenge, a selection of donated board and video games, and a jackbox station. UFV’s CampusRec will be hosting “giant” games outside of the venue. For those looking to grab a prize, raffle tickets will be given out to winners of certain games.
Throughout the evening there will be free popcorn for all attendees, and additional food will be available for purchase at the on-site Kal’s Side Grill food truck.
The Big Bang was an annual end of year party hosted by a collaboration of science student associations. The event ended with a fizzle three years ago when the closure of UFV’s on-campus bar Aftermath forced the event to find a new venue. The event was hosted in the Student Union Building (SUB) in 2016, but the space didn’t have the same atmosphere, according to the organizers. There was no Big Bang in 2017 and 2018.
“It’s been too long since the last one and I want to see more of this sort of thing on campus,” said Perrin Waldock, Vice President of the PSA.
This year’s event is hosted by the PSA, UFV Mathematics and Statistics Student Association, and UFV Mental Health Awareness Club, along with CIVL Radio, Campus Rec, StudentLife, Biology/Chemistry Association, and Visual Arts Student Association.
The Big Bang is free for all UFV students to attend, with $5 cover for any non-UFV students. Nerdy jokes encouraged, if not required.
