Exam Qs
Dear Robin,
I only have two final exams this semester, and both profs have stressed for a while now that they are closed-book exams. But since it’s all online, how can they enforce that? How much should I really be studying for the “closed-book” exams?
Sincerely,
Textbook peeper
Hello,
Some profs may want you to have your webcam on during the exam. This certainly makes it difficult to poke through your textbooks. Another way profs can ensure your books stay closed is by making your exam really long, and the only way to finish it in time is if you actually know the material. Ugh, I hate being a goodie-goodie, but if your prof goes through those efforts and continues to tell you it’s a closed-book exam, maybe you should just respect that. But if your prof says nothing of that sort, make those study cards, print helpful equations and theories to put on the wall behind your computer, bookmark all the important chapters in your textbook, and most importantly, don’t waste your life studying — it’s your time to shine.

Career Cluelessness
Dear Robin,
I’m finally graduating this semester with my BA majoring in political science. But there’s one problem: I have no clue what kind of jobs I qualify for or what range of work I can do with this degree. I’m totally lost on where to go next. Like, why wasn’t I taught anything about the job market in my degree?
Sincerely,
Politically perplexed
Hello,
Believe it or not, you’re certainly not alone in this boat. Most classes do not give you guidance on what to do with your degree after your degree. That’s something that’s on us as students. But UFV hasn’t completely left us high and dry. There’s career coaching where you can learn about what jobs are out there, resume writing, and interview skills. It’s actually a helpful resource. I recommend booking your appointment with a career coach now because it’s only open to current students. If you quickly realize that working a real job is too terrifying for you, I recommend running away from that and extending your time at UFV. Take some more classes next year, take out another student loan, and enjoy more time with your friends from class.
