Soundbite: Beagles 2

This article was published on January 29, 2019 and may be out of date. To maintain our historical record, The Cascade does not update or remove outdated articles.

Michael Todd Berland’s second solo release as Beagles is just as contemplative as his work with Christian Novelli as Fox Academy. Where Fox Academy tracks like “Lavender Blood” bristle with suppressed anxiety, Beagles’ “Watery” is more accepting of the kind of anxiety that comes hand in hand with not being in control of what happens to us. “Karate Kid” and “October Summer,” along with “Watery,” are particularly noteworthy as continuing the development of the introspective thematic elements set out in earlier Fox Academy records. If you’re looking to take a step back from the hurried or impatient back-to-class atmosphere of the semester, Beagles 2 might just be the record for you!
