Opportunities with The Cascade

We’re looking for passionate people to join our team! All applications require resume and cover letter.

Culture Editor ($350 per issue) to lead, assign, and edit all content for The Cascade’s Culture section. The role involves working with writers, ensuring coverage of UFV and community arts, editing for accuracy and journalistic standards, coordinating images, and contributing one article per issue. Applicants must be Cascade Journalism Society members, enrolled in at least one UFV course, have strong editing skills, and be comfortable managing contributors and deadlines.

Varsity Sports Writer ($150 per issue) The Cascade is looking for a Varsity Sports Writer to cover UFV athletics and campus sports. The role involves attending games, interviewing athletes and coaches, and writing engaging, accurate stories for publication. The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, meets deadlines consistently, and is passionate about sports and student life.

Jr. News Editor ($250 per issue) to help find, assign, edit, and write stories for the News and Culture sections. The role involves covering issues relevant to UFV students, collaborating with contributors, and ensuring ethical, accurate reporting. Applicants must be Cascade Journalism Society members, enrolled in at least one UFV course, and have strong English and editing skills.

Feature & Cover Design – On-Call Opportunity This paid contract role ($150 per issue) involves illustrating, designing and laying out the feature section and cover for select issues, collaborating with the Production Manager, Creative Director, and editors. Ideal candidates are skilled in illustration, Adobe Creative Suite, organized, and available on Mondays and Tuesdays. Interested illustrators can apply.
