I used to change my desktop background regularly. It’d reflect something I was excited about at the time, or a funny new image I found. Then, around six years ago, I bought the game Trine 2, and it came with some concept art. I set one of those images as the background, and now I can’t bring myself to change it.
I like the picture, but it’s not amazing or anything, and I like the game, but it’s not my favourite. But I’m such a creature of habit, and I left it for too long, so now I’m stuck with it until I get a new computer and have to change other things anyway. I’ve tried going to other backgrounds, but they’re distracting and weird. My semi-transparent taskbar shows a tiny fraction of the image, but when something else is behind there, it just feels wrong.
I can have a cluttered desktop. I can even have a cluttered desk. But for some reason, the desktop background is one element I just can’t bring myself to change.
