CIVL Station Manager Aaron Levy read through some historical Shuffles all the way back to 2018 before preparing this. So, uhh, hope ya like stream of consciousness? 2019 was darn tasty for Shuffle writeups! Also: welcome back, and STAY SAFE!
Run the Jewels — “Walking in the Snow ft Gangsta Boo”
Gangsta Boo’s second turn on an RTJ track, after Run the Jewels 2’s raunchy, equal opportunity “Love Again.” Remember the Juan Ep is DOOM episode of Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg’s podcast, where they mention Gangsta Boo being at a Swollen Member show in Louisville or something? Amazing track.
Snow — “Informer”
Bet you didn’t expect this one, did ya!? Everyone’s favorite, unintelligible, danceable, mid-90’s crossover club track from a guy who turned into a two hit wonder with his “Everybody Wants to Be Like You” return in 1999! Don’t fool yourself that you’re not alone, Snow, ‘cause you are, without plows.
Mickey Avalon — My Dick
This song, from what I understand, became famous specifically from it’s usage in Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, that’s the one where it’s used, right? Or was it popular before that placement? I can’t imagine it was, because I’ve never heard it anywhere else. Other than out of folks’ mouths. (Originally I mistook this song as being done by Miike Snow)
Staind — “Mudshovel”
It’s not a snow reference, but a mudshovel is kind of somewhat in the family of a snow shovel, so you see where I’m going here? Jay Onrait finally made a Staind reference to “It’s Been A While” this week, so I had to feel his anger and his pain.
