Novak Djokovic is the favourite for this year’s Australian Open

If you are not too knowledgeable when it comes to the sport of tennis, then this is for you! 2021’s Grand Slam season has officially kicked off, with the Australian Open underway.

The tournament features many of the sport’s biggest stars: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, and many more championship contenders. The Grand Slam tournaments are seen as the biggest and most important of the season, compared to tour tournaments, which occur frequently year round.

The Grand Slams, which are held in Australia, France, England, and the United States, have their own distinct surfaces and court conditions. The Australian Open is a hardcourt tournament, meaning that the court is not grass or clay. The conditions are very hot due to the current time of year, and the tournament has many frequent winners who play their best on hardcourt surfaces. Novak Djokovic has won the tournament a record of seven times, so he should be the favourite this year by far. However, if you’re a betting person, or if you just want to watch the games, here are two guys to watch out for.

Dominic Thiem, once thought of as a clay court specialist, has massively improved his hardcourt game since his debut on the tour. His only Grand Slam championship was on the hardcourt, as he defeated Alexander Zverev to win the 2020 U.S. Open.

Daniil Medvedev, a hardcourt specialist at this point in his career, has been to the finals of the hardcourt U.S. Open and has won the tour finals, where he defeated Thiem, Nadal, and Djokovic on the hardcourt. He could be the favourite to win the tournament who isn’t named Novak Djokovic.

If you have thought of watching tennis and debated tuning in to the tournaments, this year’s Australian Open should be the perfect choice for high-stakes action!
