Oh? You’re planning to watch the new Harry Potter series? Respectfully: go fuck yourself.
I know ethical consumption is basically a cosmic joke. People need cheap groceries, cheap meals, cheap everything. Boycotts aren’t easy when the whole system is designed to make you dependent. But this isn’t about survival. This is about comfort; nostalgia — not good enough reasons to hand money to someone actively harming trans people.
I loved Harry Potter. I grew up with it, marathoned it, fought over houses, bought the wand, memorized spells. I even WROTE fanfics — I put in the hours, y’all.
But growing up means recognizing when something you love is hurting people you care about.
Wearing HP merch now feels loaded. A trans stranger doesn’t know you’re “not like that.” They just see someone repping a franchise whose creator openly targets them (and ace people too, for fuck’s sake). Nostalgia doesn’t erase the harm.
There are a million other books, shows, worlds. You’re not trapped. You’re just unwilling to let go of the blanky. And if you choose to watch it legally anyway, fine — but don’t call yourself an ally. You’re funding transphobia. Own that.
