Social Innovation Certificate to debut Fall 2026

The Social Innovation Certificate program will be implemented at UFV in the Fall 2026 semester. This two year program was created to help students grow as leaders and hone in on their collaborative and communicative skills. They will also receive applicable field experience, networking, and have “a social innovation portfolio” by the end of the program.

Put together by the Changemaking team — Dr. Linda Pardy, Dr. Anna Griffith, and Dr. Martha Dow — this program intends to prepare students to navigate tough problems in innovative, inclusive, and creative ways. Students have the option to study this certificate separately or combine it with their degree.

In the UFV Today blog, Dr. Griffith commented on the uniqueness of the certificate program.

“You’re learning the theory and practices, but then you’re actually working on and then leading real social innovation projects. It bridges students into a workplace that they might want to be part of as they develop their career.”

The program will be located at the Abbotsford campus and everyone is welcome to enroll. The certificate requires students to take four Social Innovation courses and five accepted electives that can also count towards other UFV programs for credit.
