And a year went by

One year ago, I was drowning in one of the worst crises I’ve faced. One year ago, suddenly, the dream that brought me to Canada in the first place was threatened. One year ago, I felt as if five years of hard work were crumbling like sand as my fingers desperately struggled to keep them safe. One year ago… Everything I held dear burst into flames, the likes of which I had never seen before

I had never pushed myself that far, nor fought as hard as I did back then to turn the ashes of what burned down into a new blazing flame. I think somewhere along the line, those flames burned me down, and turned me into feeble particles drifting into the unknown void… I definitely lost myself, but at the same time, I found myself too.

Evolution is such a peculiar thing. I definitely would not want to go through a catastrophe like that again, but I have to recognize that along the way, a new version of me ignited anew.

I hope I never forget what was burned down. May I remember that the blaze that keeps me going burns thanks to what was lost.
