Doja Cat – Paint the Town Red

We’ve stopped caring! Or at least, she has. She said what she said, and you can eat it if you’re not on board. She let all that get to her head, and she’ll paint the town red. She’s the devil, bad, and a rebel. A song for all the haters.

Lil Dicky – Hearsay

There’s an episode in the FX program, DAVE, where the eponymous, rising hip hop star gets matched with Doja Cat on a dating app, and he goes all “neckbeard” in messages between setting and meeting for a date. I bring you this subsequent in-episode performance in tribute to what wasn’t.

Olivia Rodrigo – Get Him Back

This song has been used expertly in television advertisements and smartphone manufacturing promotion (as well as multiple other digital formats). It’s an excellent throwback to the 1990s style of monologue confessionals and torch songs, matched with a catchy sing-song chorus and poignant observational humour about dating in the modern world.

Homeboy Sandman ft. Shad – Ignorant Sh*t

We brought Homeboy to Abbotsford in July for Jam in Jubilee, but here he is with Canadian hip hop royalty, Shad, utilizing the same sample from Biggie’s Big Poppa* (originally from the Isley Brothers). The two use it as an opportunity to flex their lyrical muscles in elegant tandem.
