No questions asked — it’s definitely going to be a hot summer. With the sun absolutely scorching the Fraser Valley, it’s a given that we’re going to want to go swimming, and you can’t go swimming without a bathing suit (unless you’re opting for skinny dipping). It’s easy to just order a cheap bathing suit from websites like Shein or Zaful, but why not try opting for a more sustainable option? These clothing and bikini brands may be a bit steeper in price, but they will leave you feeling good about not only yourself, but also your purchase.

Londre
Founded in Vancouver, B.C.
Price range: $50 – $200
Size range: XS – 5XL

Londre was brought to life in 2017. They are an ethical clothing and bathing suit brand originating in Vancouver, BC. Their items range from loungewear to bathing suits. Instead of going the plain triangle bikini route, they opt for lots of subtle frills and muted colours. Londre definitely takes the more elegant route with their swimsuits. Their one pieces and bikini tops are stylish and sophisticated, no doubt leaving their customers happy with their purchase. They may have a small selection to choose from, but each piece is unique in its own way. The brand’s pieces are made from recycled materials, creating highly sustainable and feel good items.

Bellini Bikini
Founded in Mission, B.C.
Price range: $65 – $145
Size range: XS – XL

Bellini Bikini is fairly new and fresh, having only just been created in 2020. Their eco-friendly bikinis are created using regenerated fibres, giving them a super soft feel, and are shipped to you in sustainable packaging. Bellini Bikinis swimwear is made to make you feel good and confident in your bikini decision. Having only started the brand last year, there are already a few different collections to browse from, and since it originated in a city so close, it’ll have you feeling good about where your money goes. Bellini Bikini has quite the medley of colours for their swimsuits; whether you prefer basic black and whites, or bright blues and purples, this small brand might just have what you’re looking for.

Frank and Oak
Founded in Montreal, QC
Price range: $70 – $130 for swimwear
Size range: XS – XL

Frank and Oak may be the more well known or popular choice in this list, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t just as sustainable. Originating back in 2012 in Montreal, the company now has stores all over Canada. Although they are quite a popular brand, they are ethical and do their part in using less waste with packaging and clothing options, and they work to offset the carbon emissions from their shipping. Frank and Oak goes back to basics with their swimsuits. Their swimsuit selection may be a small one, but there’s no doubt that you will find a perfect staple piece from it (not to mention they have a men’s swimwear section, too!). Some of the pieces (like the criss cross bikini top) are even versatile enough to be worn just as a shirt. So whether you are going to the beach for a swim, or just doing everyday things in the heat, Frank and Oak is worth checking out.

SELFISH Swimwear
Founded in Montreal, QC
Price range: $70 – $160
Size range: S – XL

SELFISH Swimwear originated in a small studio in Montreal, QC. The founder, Naomie Caron, graduated from the leading fashion school in Montreal in 2011 and soon after started creating patterns for her company. All of their swimsuits are handmade in Montreal in their studio, and are made with recycled fibres fabric from items such as old fishing nets. Their swimsuit line ranges from funky one pieces to an assortment of tops and bottoms. They also offer other clothing pieces, such as cover ups and sportswear. Their patterns and styles are nothing short of unique, with interesting flower prints and flattering wrap tops. SELFISH Swimwear definitely has a wide selection of groovy bikini combinations to catch the eye.
