Long weekends are nice, but there’s something profoundly disappointing about when one doesn’t benefit you personally. This semester, all of my classes fall in the Tuesday–Thursday stretch of the week, which means I don’t get a week off from anything for either Thanksgiving or Remembrance Day. This is the first semester I’ve had that happen, and I have to say, it’s surprisingly disheartening. In the midst of the weather turning dreary, the assignments piling up, and the coursework getting heavier, it’s always nice to have that guilt-free reprieve of skipping class for a week. Somehow that bonus day feels so much more restorative and productive than taking a day off for any other reason.

Still, it’s Thanksgiving, so in the spirit of the holiday, I’ll give thanks to the wonderful week that is the winter reading break. It’s still months away, but I’m already excited for it. Thanks for existing, winter reading break.
