Campus Fashion: a look back on 2025 fashion

Remembering the styles of yesterday

This is Campus Fashion, your source of inspiration for seasonal trends, cool finds, and wardrobe basics to keep you looking stylish throughout the year.

2025 was a year of experimentation, creativity, and style as it presented fresh looks while reinventing old ones, which created a unique palette for the fashion lover. As 2026 begins, let’s not forget all the unforgettable looks of yesteryear. The Cascade looked back on some of 2025’s most iconic fashion trends that are still rocking today.

Chocolate brown

The rich and dark “it” colour of 2025 was everywhere, from tops to shoes. A nice alternative to black, chocolate brown looks good with light and dark colours alike. An iconic brown statement wool coat pairs well with a maxi cream sweater dress, tall brown leather boots, and a suede brown clutch purse for a rollicking night out. For a more casual day, wearing a chocolate brown sweatshirt and matching sweatpants with a white T-shirt and runners is a practical and comfortable way to pull off this style while studying for classes.

The Met Gala trends

From pinstripes to suits of armour, the 2025 Met Gala was a memorable event that catered to every style and was complimented as having some of the most creative and exaggerated fashion looks to date. Japanese actress, Anna Sawai was decked out in an-all-white suit, while Australian model, Miranda Kerr, wore a dramatic black evening gown at the event. While many may not wear these styles on a daily basis, emulating your favourite trend in a more downplayed version such as a simple black dress for a formal event or a pinstripe suit for a business meeting is another way of appreciating fashion and giving a nod to the Met Gala.

Bodysuits

A useful and trendy style, the bodysuit gives off the illusion of an effortless tucked in look while maintaining a comfortable and elegant persona. Resembling a dancer’s leotard with snap buttons at the bottom, bodysuits are very versatile and can go with almost everything in your wardrobe. For a casual look, wear a black bodysuit with a pair of medium wash jeans, a chunky cream cardigan, and tall black boots. In a more formal setting, pair a white bodysuit with oatmeal heathered trousers, a matching blazer, a cream trench coat, a cream crossbody handbag, and loafers.

Suede bags

Soft, supple, and luxurious, suede leather and imitation handbags were a huge hit this year, especially in the fall. A brown slouch suede handbag is a good alternative accessory to a structured black handbag, and can be worn with jeans, a cream cable-knit sweater, a cream long puffer vest, brown suede Ked shoes and sunglasses. For a more formal look, wear an indigo denim shirt dress, a camel blazer, tights, black kitten heels and a black suede clutch purse for the whole effect.

White eyelet

During the summer, white eyelet clothing was a popular choice to wear to stay cool in the heat and is a classic that will more than likely show up in summer 2026. For a fun day out at the beach, a pair of white eyelet shorts with a matching button-down short sleeve shirt is a great cover up over a swim suit when worn with white tennis shoes and a baseball hat to help keep the sun out. For a date night, wear a midi length white eyelet dress, brown leather wedge sandals, a straw tote bag, a denim jacket, and sunglasses for a summer resort look.

There you have it, a compilation of some of the best fashion styles and memories of 2025. As the new year unfolds, stay tuned for more content on what 2026 has to offer. May you all have a fashionable winter semester on campus and a Happy New Year!
