Summer: experience it how you want to

I’ve noticed that each summer may come with expectations: to be productive, to make the most of it, to “glow up.” I feel summer includes a lot of anticipation to maximize time, and each year, I get overwhelmed by these expectations.

I understand that school’s out and everyone’s schedule tends to be a bit more flexible, but we shouldn’t have to force any kind of checklist for the summer. Not everything needs to be worthy of a social media post.

The expectations of summer feel counterintuitive to me. Why can’t summer be fun and simple?

Instead of perpetuating the notion that we have to be at the beach each week and sign up for every workout class available, why can’t we emphasize breathing in the fresh air from a bedroom window? We should eat fresh fruits and go on walks, because we want to; not to make these activities fit some sort of seasonal aesthetic.

Summer, like every season, is a time we experience different elements of our earth and that should be enough.

So, you should make the most of your summer, and what that means should be up to you. There’s no one way to experience summer.
