This is Campus Fashion, your source of inspiration for seasonal trends, cool finds, and wardrobe basics to keep you looking stylish throughout the year.
Summer is here! This season is all about laid-back, relaxing outfits made from natural, breathable fibres, fun accessories, and fashionable footwear. The Cascade took a look at some of the most popular styles set for the hot season as the weather (hopefully) continues to warm up.
What is a summer outfit without a beach cover-up? The beauty of this style is that it comes in many shapes and forms, from an oversized T-shirt and shorts to a gauzy kimono-styled cover-up, there are plenty of choices for everyone. Try pairing an oversized, white cotton button-down shirt to a neutral coloured bikini with a straw summer hat and flip flops. For a more casual look, wear a pair of navy shorts and an oversized graphic tee over a black one piece swimsuit. Complete the look with a baseball cap and white tennis shoes.
Polka dots
Small, round, and cute, polka dots have been popping up in window shops and on the runway. A popular trend this year, you can wear a signature navy shirt dress with white polka dots, a white denim jacket, straw wedge sandals, a white tote bag, and a Panama straw hat for a day out with friends. You can also use it as an accent piece by adding a red and black polka dot scarf to a simple all black outfit.
Eyelet
An embroidered cotton material, eyelet is a summer staple that never fails. Wear a navy T-shirt with a pair of white eyelet shorts, white tennis shoes, and a navy baseball cap while running errands around town. For a more dressy look, the classic white eyelet dress and blue denim jacket look is always in style. Pair that with ballet flats or a kitten heel sandal for the full effect.
One of the trending pieces of the summer, beaded bags add a fresh new look, and instantly adds a summery feel to any outfit. This summer, change up your beach look by pairing an oversized beaded handbag with your favourite swimsuit and cover up. You can also combine a little black dress, black sandals, and a coral cardigan with a matching coloured beaded clutch purse for a nice evening out at a local restaurant.
Flip flops with built in toe rings are all the rage this summer. Wear a simple black flip flop with a turquoise toe ring, a tropical print maxi dress, and a loose knitted white cropped cardigan. You can also pair brown toe-ring flip flops with cream linen shorts and a black T-shirt.
Linen
Summer is not summer without linen. From pants to shorts, T-shirts to dresses, there is a lot to choose from. On a cooler summer day, try wearing a pair of cream linen pants with a black crew neck T-shirt, a matching cream linen button-down shirt, and white sneakers. For hotter weather, pair a navy tank top with a pair of white linen shorts, a baseball cap, and sandals. For a night out, a maxi neutral or colourful linen dress looks great with a cinching belt and a fun patterned clutch purse.
There you have it, a list of some of the most sought after summer trends to date. May your summer be both fashionable and cool as you navigate the campus halls in style.
