University changes round two

Dear Robin,

As you’ve probably heard, UFV made the announcement that they’re aiming to go back to in-person classes again by the fall semester. I’m feeling pretty worried about this all. For one thing, I’m not even sure I know how to socialize with real human beings anymore. Plus I’m definitely not ready to start commuting again. Do you have any ideas for how to prep myself for this massive change?

Sincerely,

Super socially anxious

Hello,

Let’s look at the bright side here: the more socially incapable you are, the less likely it is that people will want to spend time with you, which seems like a nice way to ease into being around humans and not just your cat anymore. And in order to commute less, register for all your classes to land on just two days of the week. I also feel like profs will be really accommodating for remote classes if you’re continuously infected with COVID-19. The choice is yours.

Tax time

Dear Robin,

Tax season is here, and this is the first year I’ve got to do this on my own. How do I file taxes, and how does the whole system work?

Sincerely,

Totally taxed

Hello,

Everyone has different ideas of what one should spend their money on, but I firmly believe that hiring an accountant to do this for you should be your biggest financial priority right now. Yes, having perfectly ripe avocados and free-range, organic eggs on flaxseed toast for breakfast each morning is kind of important, but you can live for a month with just oatmeal instead. Think about the countless hours it will take you to learn about the tax system and how to file yours correctly. Now, how much better does it sound to save yourself all of that time and just pay your friend from high school’s dad who’s an accountant to do it for you?

Robin
