It may be hard to find the words to describe a role model that does justice to the impact they have on one’s life. For me, Optimus Prime was one such role model. He accompanied me for much of my teenage years and into adulthood. There are so many traits from this character that I could go on and on about — I tried writing them… But I still couldn’t get the words I wanted to express.
That is because I’m not here to talk about Optimus, but the voice and pillar behind him: Peter Cullen.
Mr. Cullen, it is not often we see people find their true vocation with such vigor as you did. You shared with the world what a real hero is. The story behind how you found Optimus’ voice still makes me tear up. I see the love you had for your brother Larry, a true hero in your eyes, and how through him you breathed life into the Autobot hero we know and love.
“If you’re going to be a hero, be a real hero… Be strong enough to be gentle.”
You will always be one of my heroes, Mr. Cullen… May you rest in peace.
