Sometimes I take moments out of my day to appreciate little things that exist at the same moment in time as me. For example, one day I might look at a new building in construction and feel lucky I’m getting to witness it being built. Or, I may sit to play some video games and feel lucky that at present they feel so vast and imaginative. There’s one thing that I dare say, I appreciate way too much and perhaps way too intensely. That’s matcha.

The word itself rolls off the tongue beautifully. This fine green powder suspended in liquid pleases my taste buds like nothing else does. It is earthy, delicate, intricate — its velvety layers pull me in from the first sip of that sweet microfoam, all the way down to its rich core.

I’ve prepared matchas for over half a decade. My friends and family know my matcha slaps — I usually don’t brag, but about my matcha? I tell you, it absolutely SLAPS.

Sometimes I pause after the first sip, close my eyes with ecstasy, and thank the universe for allowing me to exist in a reality where matcha is a thing.
