The moment I become a divorced dad

24 days to go.

Actually, by the time this is published, a mere 21. And then, my obsession begins. Most people are surprised to learn I’m a hockey fan, especially an NHL fan. I know the League has its issues, but I just cannot help indulging in this high-adrenaline sport. I have exactly zero friends who like to watch hockey and so far, I’ve only been able to rope one friend in to regularly watch it with me. But it doesn’t matter, because when the game clock starts ticking down, the world around me no longer exists. I become that divorced dad parked on the couch, drink in hand, screaming at the TV.

I religiously follow the Philadelphia Flyers, and like a true religion, this involves rituals. Usually, the consumption of at least two caesars, ample snacks, and three(ish) hours where nothing else exists except players in the rink and familiar announcers. I can’t wait for that swish of ice, the ramble of the play-by-play, and a small bit of solace to carry me through the semester.
