By Aaron Levy (CIVL DJ) – Email

Print Edition: July 4, 2012

CIVL Radio station manager Aaron Levy does play-by-play for the men’s and women’s Cascades basketball home games, and is sad to see both all-star Joel Friesen and coach-extraordinaire Barnaby Craddock leave for Edmonton and the Alberta Golden Bears, but looks forward to seeing them lose at the Envision Athletic Centre over the next two years ;)

Liars – “The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack”

Used in Seth Rogan’s 50/50 before the hospital scene. Liars is playing in Vancouver next month with an Abby/Wack local opening. And the mantra, “I can always be found, I will always be there, and I want you to find me, I will stay by your side,” fits.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Maps”

This is likely what all Cascades fans will be repeating when speaking, thinking or wondering about Craddock and Friesen: “Wait, they don’t love you like I love you.” Great drums, guitar and overall mood – sure, the vocals need some work, not. Classic track from 2003, ironically written about Liars’ Angus!

Aerosmith – “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”

First off, Ben Affleck has way more sex appeal than Alicia Silverstone, so pairing him up with Liv Tyler is great for this video/movie/cultural phenomenon. Armageddon was a movie that I saw twice in theatres in grade 7. We’ll miss you guys, but don’t close your eyes. Moments I treasure.

‘N Sync – “Bye Bye Bye”

No, it’s not a late-‘90s Destiny’s Child song, but the repetition of thrice does hold true to the twee-pop mould. Without ‘N Sync, we wouldn’t have J-Lake, and without him we wouldn’t have Nelly Furtado’s hit with Timbaland, so this song is totally a worthwhile trade-off. Like Sam Freeman dominating Canada West.
