The play begins the moment you enter the theatre. The program’s promise of sexy ladies was fulfilled early on, as women clad in corsets, garters, and black tulle led attendees to their seats, taking some by the arm and flirting. Then the show began, a series of seamlessly joined skits that formed one show complete with singing, voodoo dolls, and dance numbers. At times I was unsure whether I was watching scenes from the characters’ burlesque or scenes from the play about the characters in the burlesque, but the blurred lines seemed to enhance rather than detract from my enjoyment of the spectacle. There was a fair helping of tongue-in-cheek humour, the expected dosage of innuendo (matching the content), and great choreography. Lines were delivered with seamless efficiency with plenty of room for the audience’s laughter, and everyone was in fabulous character for the duration. Very entertaining!
